ZQ is a widely used gearbox in various industries, also known as ZQ gearbox (ZQ speed reducer, ZQ geared speed reducer) or crane gearbox (crane speed reducer). When combined with an electric motor, this gearbox forms a geared motor, helping to reduce rotational speed and increase torque for stable and durable machine operation. With its efficient power transmission capability, this equipment meets the operational requirements of various industrial production systems.

ZQ Gearbox Structure
ZQ gearboxes are robustly designed to ensure stable transmission and high efficiency, comprising the following components:
- Casing: Made from cast iron or solid cast steel, with high rigidity, it protects internal components and reduces vibrations during operation. The casing also holds the lubricant inside.
- Input shaft: This component receives motion from the electric motor, transmitting torque to the internal gear system.
- Output shaft: This component delivers the reduced torque, driving working mechanisms such as cranes, conveyors, or lifting machines.
- Gear system: This is the main speed reduction component, consisting of pairs of helical gears that operate in sequential stages to reduce input speed and increase output torque.
- Bearings: Help the shafts and rotating parts operate smoothly, reduce friction, and ensure a long lifespan for the gearbox.
- Oil seals: Prevent lubricating oil from leaking out, helping to minimize the ingress of dust and impurities from the outside.
- Lubrication system: Uses oil or grease to reduce friction, dissipate heat, and extend the lifespan of the drive components.
- Auxiliary drive unit: Includes couplings and pulleys, belts or sprockets, etc., which help the ZQ gearbox work synchronously with the electric motor and the loaded equipment.
ZQ Gearbox Operating Principle

The ZQ gearbox operates based on its internal gear transmission principle.
- When the motor rotates, it turns the input shaft of the ZQ gearbox.
- The input shaft is fitted with a small gear (driving gear).
- The small gear meshes with a larger gear (driven gear).
- When the small gear completes one revolution, it causes the larger gear to rotate more slowly. This is the process of reducing the output speed.
- However, while the speed is reduced, the output torque is increased, enabling the gearbox to pull heavy loads.
Depending on the specific application, three different output shaft types can be selected for ZQ gearboxes, making them suitable for various machinery:
- Type C (Standard): This is the most commonly used output shaft, with a simple design. It is suitable for direct drives and basic, less complex applications.
- Type CA (Improved): Designed to be more robust, it is used for systems requiring very high rotational force.
- Gear type: Instead of a smooth shaft, the gear type has a gear directly attached to the output shaft. It is highly suitable for transmitting large power loads.
Thanks to its precise construction and sequential step-by-step transmission from one shaft to another, the ZQ gearbox provides stable, smooth speed, strong load capacity, and high efficiency.
ZQ Gearbox Classification

ZQ gearboxes come in various types to suit all kinds of lifting machinery. They are classified based on shaft arrangement, gear shape, size, and number of reduction stages.
By Shaft Arrangement
- Inline Gearbox: The input and output shafts are arranged parallel to each other. This is the most common type due to its simple design, ease of installation, low maintenance, and stable operation.
- Angled Shaft Gearbox: The input and output shafts are designed at a fixed angle to each other, allowing for efficient power transmission and high load capacity. It provides stronger power and better load-bearing capacity, but has a more complex structure and higher cost.
- Parallel Shaft Gearbox: The input and output shafts are parallel to each other but not on the same line. This is the most common design.
By Gear Type
- ZQ Helical Gearbox: Uses helical gears to increase smoothness, reduce noise, and enhance transmission efficiency.
- ZQ Bevel Gearbox (K): Bevel gears transmit power between intersecting shafts, suitable for applications requiring a change in transmission direction.
- ZQ Spur Gearbox: Gears are cut straight, parallel to the shaft. Less common in newer ZQ series due to higher noise generation, but easier to manufacture and lower in cost.
By Size
Gearbox classification by size is primarily based on a technical parameter called “Size,” which determines the gearbox’s load capacity. Currently, Thanh Thai Motor offers sizes ranging from 200mm to 1000mm, including:
| Gearbox ZQ 200 | Gearbox ZQ 250 |
| Gearbox ZQ 350 | Gearbox ZQ 400 |
| Gearbox ZQ 500 | Gearbox ZQ 650 |
| Gearbox ZQ 750 | Gearbox ZQ 850 |
| Gearbox ZQ 1000 |
By Number of Stages
- ZQ 1-Stage Gearbox: This type of gearbox has a simple design with only one pair of transmission gears. Thanks to its compact structure and low cost, the ZQ 1-stage gearbox is suitable for applications with moderate loads and without a requirement for a very high reduction ratio. It is often used in household machinery or simple mechanical systems.
- ZQ 2-Stage Gearbox: Consists of two stages of meshing gears, allowing for a larger reduction ratio and better load capacity. This type is often applied in industrial machinery where strong, durable, and high-efficiency transmission is required.
- ZQ 3-Stage Gearbox: This type of gearbox consists of three stages of transmission gears, which helps to increase the reduction ratio to a very high level and significantly reduce the output speed compared to the input speed. As a result, the ZQ 3-stage gearbox has a large load capacity, operates stably, and is durable for a long time.
ZQ Gearbox Technical Specifications

ZQ gearboxes are specialized for heavy machinery such as cranes, and thus ZQ comes in many variations to suit different applications. ZQ gearboxes are divided into two main series based on the number of reduction stages:
- ZQH (ZQA, JZQ) 2-stage: This series has only 2 reduction stages.
- ZQD 3-stage: This series has 3 consecutive reduction stages, creating slower speed and more powerful torque.
Below are the detailed ZQ technical specifications:
| Gear Ratio (Ratio) |
|
| Input Mounting Type |
|
| Gearbox Size | The gearbox size is measured as the distance from the center of the input shaft to the center of the output shaft in mm. Corresponding to the gearbox’s load capacity, common sizes include: 200, 250, 350, 400, 550, 650, 750, 850, and 1000. |
| Construction | The casing is made of cast iron steel, utilizing helical gears which ensure smoother, more durable, and quieter operation compared to spur gears. |
| ZQ Mounting Style | Input: The tapered shaft is the most common mounting type for easy connection with an electric motor. Output: For the output, there are 2 main mounting types:

Advantages of ZQ Gearboxes

- Extremely high load capacity and high durability: Made from robust materials, the casing is cast iron or alloy steel, and the specialized steel gears undergo precise heat treatment and grinding to increase hardness and wear resistance, capable of withstanding large torsional forces for extended periods.
- Smooth operation and high efficiency: ZQ gearboxes utilize helical gears, allowing teeth to mesh gradually and continuously. This helps reduce noise and vibration during ZQ gearbox operation, improving efficiency.
- Wide range of gear ratios: Easy to select from two main series, ZQH 2-stage and ZQD 3-stage, providing a full range of gear ratios from 10 times to over 317 times, suitable for various loads, making it easy for users to choose the right gearbox for their machinery’s needs.
- Specialized design for heavy industry: Available in various sizes from 200 to 1000, with flexible mounting options including 9 input shaft types and 3 output shaft types.
