Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the shaft of a horizontal TECO water pump rotate very smoothly when newly installed, but gets jammed tightly when the suction/discharge flange bolts are tightened against the pump head face?

Due to the misalignment between the pipeline and the pump head. When the standby pipeline is not concentric or parallel with the pump flange, intentionally tightening the bolts will create an extremely large forced load, slightly deforming the cast iron pump head casing and pulling the shaft/impeller out of alignment, causing a binding jam. You need to remove the flange, re-align the pipeline concentricity accurately, and then evenly tighten the bolt torque.

What type of mechanical seal does the TECO pump head use, and how to extend the seal lifespan?

This capacity range of TECO typically uses a tapered spring mechanical seal with a Ceramic/Carbon or heat-resistant SiC seal face. To prevent the seal from being scratched and causing water leakage, you must absolutely avoid letting the pump run dry without priming water for cooling. At the same time, if the water pump contains sand or runs a Chiller hot water circulation system, you must choose the correct specialized seal type resistant to solid particles or high temperatures according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

How to wire the terminal box of a TECO motor (380V/660V rating label) to run a Star-Delta starting control panel?

When using a Star-Delta (Y/Δ) starting circuit to reduce the starting current for large pumps, you must completely remove the short-circuit copper bars (jumper links) in the terminal box of the TECO motor. At this time, you will route all 6 lead wires of the 3 motor windings (U_1, V_1, W_1 and U_2, V_2, W_2) to the 6 outputs of the magnetic contactor in the control panel according to the correct schematic diagram for the panel to automatically control switching.
